Stan Ruffo and The Instigators

3:00 p.m., Monday, May 27, 2002

Featuring Martin Pugh on Guitar

Bob "Pacemaker" Newham on Drums

and Dale Jennings on Upright Bass

The Instigators consist of . . .

Longtime former Visalia resident, Stan Ruffo, on vocals, harmonica, and sax.  Many of you may remember Stan as the host of Sunday night's blues radio program, Blues on Tap on K100 99.7 FM.  If you're a blues lover and you've lived in this valley for very long you are likely to have seen Stan at The Musick Mountain Blues Festival, The Merced Blues & Jazz Festival, Ducey's at Bass Lake, one of many other local night spots in the Central Valley.

Joining Stan is guitarist, Martin Pugh, who hails from England, and has over the last 30 years performed or recorded with Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, Keith Emerson,  and original Yardbird Founder, Keith Reif.  For the last eight years, Martin has appeared with Stan at all major performances from California to Mississippi and Tennessee.

Holding down the driver's seat for the Instigators is legendary drummer, Bob "Pacemaker" Newham.  Although "Pace" has played with everybody from Big Joe Turner and Big Mama Thornton, to Pee Wee Crayton and Rod Plazza, he is probably best known for his performance on William Clarke's "Groove Time," the Alligator Records release of the mid '90s, and for his many years with The William Clarke Band.  "Pace" has been an "Instigator" since 1996.

Giving The Instigators substance in the low end is none other than "the amazing rhythm ace, on the big upright bass," Dale Jennings!  That name you may recognize as the bassist for Big Dave & The Ultrasonics, whom Dale cut two CDs with since 1998.  When Dave gets time off from The Instigators, you might find him playing with Mighty Flyers' guitarist, Rick Holmstrom, or any number of other highly respected L.A. based blues acts.  Rest assured, Dale is a slick "Instigator" layin' down greasy groove!

To sum things up, The Instigators are a seasoned, well-rehearsed group of experienced and knowledgeable blues lovers that will entertain, excite, move, and groove you for as long as you can hang on!

There is NO cover charge at the locations where The Instigators will be performing, and you are encouraged to bring the entire family!
